Bank of America Sucks at Security

My current bank has decided to increase the amount of fees they charge so I've been on the lookout for something new. I was interested in opening a checking account that was completely free so I opened one this morning online with Bank of America. With this account, as long as you don't see a teller, there is no monthly fee but once you talk to someone in person, they charge you $9 for the month. Sounds fine to me because I can't remember the last time I was in a bank.

I filled out the online application and it was approved for the new checking account. I then set up my online username, password, security questions and pictures. Everything was rosy.

Once it was all done, I logged into my account. To my surprise, I see a large balance. I only transfered the minimum $25 required to open the account. Where does this balance come from? Is it a credit line that I missed in the fine print? As I investigated I noticed that it was a savings account. I was signing up for a checking account so that didn't make sense. Then I see that I have access to the account history and statements. I have access to someone else's account!

Now, while filing the application, I input my name, personal information and current address. How on earth did I get access to someone else's account. FULL ACCESS! If I wanted, I could start transferring money right now.

I don't want or need to do this but I'm completely surprised that something like this could happen. Since today is a holiday, all the banks are closed and I can't talk to a live person.

Fortunately, I'm an honest, upstanding person and will be sure to get this straightened out first thing in the morning. If I was unscrupulous, I would be have a party with the pot of gold I just found.

Needless to say, once this is taken care of I won't be banking here. I don't want anyone accidentally getting in my account.

Bank of America you suck at security.
